Madalin Hotel

Abeautiful old hotel, originally built in 1909 and painstakingly restored in 2006, this inn and restaurant have quickly become the anchor of a lively scene in tiny Tivoli. The 11 rooms in the three-story building are spacious and understated, tastefully outfitted with Eastlake period pieces. Downstairs, the gorgeously carved 19-foot bar in the tavern is the centerpiece of the restaurant, Madalin's Table, which features a wraparound porch, a popular spot to be on warm evenings."   original review

Madalin's Table

"Part of the renovated Madalin Hotel , this new restaurant is a welcome addition to the burgeoning scene on Broadway in out-of-the-way, but hip, Tivoli. The chef, Brian Kaywork, is a CIA grad, and he works with fresh local ingredients to prepare a seasonal menu that may not be particularly inventive, yet is certainly rewarding. Sample the straightforward tavern fare, such as a yummy burger, Baja fish tacos, or excellently prepared fresh seafood, pastas, and local meats, including molasses-brined pork tenderloin. The wine list isn't massive, but wines are very well chosen, with a few unexpected choices. The main dining room is an elegant turn-of-the-20th-century space tucked behind the foyer and outfitted with crisp white tablecloths. But on warm summer nights, it seems that everyone clamors for a table on the sweeping wraparound veranda, from which one can survey the local scene, made up of professors and students from nearby Bard College, weekenders, and a handful of celebrities who hide out in these parts."   original review
